Halloween Toys for Party Favor Bags

Author: Katrina James

Holidays like Halloween are a time when we celebrate by eating too much chocolate, chips, candy and other unhealthy items. The sad truth is - our children are becoming increasingly overweight, and most eat too much junk food all year round. Allowing them to collect as much free candy as they can in a couple of hours is sending a message that it is alright to eat junk when it is free/when it is a holiday/ when it is tradition. How can you still let kids have fun but limit the junk? My solution is to replace the candy with fun trick or treat toys.

Halloween toys are no costlier than candy, but will last longer. They can be given out as individual items, or smaller ones can be combined in Halloween party favor bags. Kids will collect enough candy from other houses anyways, and most love the surprise of getting fun toys. There are useful toys like: Halloween pencils; erasers; stampers hair elastics; and bouncy balls. There are also craft items to decorate or assemble. Some are just goofy, gooey or spooky novelties that kids love - like plastic spiders; bats; rings; finger puppets; mini skateboards; stuffed toys; etc.

In addition to the obvious health benefits of no sugar, there is also no allergy (nut, milk, wheat) concerns with toys. Bringing toys to school poses no risk to other kids with allergies, and parents do not need to search through toys to find potentially harmful allergens.

Also, as I often tell my clients, if you don't bring junk in the house - you can't be tempted to eat it. I have had many distraught parents say that they bought candy early and ended up eating most of it before Halloween began. The other big benefit with Halloween toys is that you can store leftovers for next year.

Halloween crafts- Easy But Eye Catching

Author: Abhishek Agarwal

Anywhere you look, you can find Halloween crafts, and there are plenty of crafts that are really easy to do. There are loads of magazines and books on Halloween crafts and easy crafts. The internet is perhaps the best bet for the widest variety of choices. Here are a few crafts from the internet that are exceedingly easy to carry out during the Halloween season.

A Q-Tip skeleton is one craft that was found on the internet and can be done by just about anyone. First, take some white paper and cut out a skull from it. You can either cut out the nose, eyes and mouth or you can draw them on. Then using Q-tips, make the body of the skeleton. Arrange the Q-tips on some black construction paper in such a way that they make the legs, ribs, and arms etc. of the skeleton. If you need to, you can shorten the q-tips by cutting them. Once you are satisfied with the skeletal arrangement, just glue the Q-tips to the paper using white glue and leave to dry.

Who doesn't love Halloween crafts that are edible? Dirt and worms is the most popular edible Halloween craft and is especially a hit with the kids. All you need to do is take a clean clear plastic cup and fill it with some chocolate ice cream. Then take some chocolate cookies in a zip-loc bag and smash them into tiny bits. Take the smashed pieces and some gummy worms and pour them over the ice cream. Your dirt and worms is ready and you can have a great time eating it.

You can even adapt some difficult Halloween crafts into easy ones. You can make a cute little pumpkin wreath by cutting little pumpkins from some orange construction paper and using a black marker to draw scary faces on them. Then cut out the center circle off a paper plate and clue the pumpkins around its edges. Punch a hole at the top, pull a hole through it and hang.

Ghostly bushes is another Halloween craft that can make you a Halloween sensation in your neighborhood. Take a plain white sheet. Fold it into a half. Place a few newspapers between the folds and use some craft paint or a black marker to draw a ghost face on it. You can make either scary or funny faces. After it has dried, place the sheet over a bush and tightly secure it with some clothespins at the back.

There are a number of Halloween crafts that are really simple and easy. You just need to search. It will be great if you can add your own imagination and creativity to improvise on the crafts. This Halloween, decorate your home with crafts you made yourself!

Kids Party Planning Ideas for the Holidays

Author: Katrina James

Parents want their kids to have a successful party event. Planning a party itinerary in advance is key to assuring that kids are kept entertained and amused during the event. Give yourself at least a month to assure everything runs smoothly on party day.

Start planning early and select the party date and time while avoiding any holidays or school vacations. Kids parties usually are about 2 hours long.

Next you and the party honoree should make a guest list so you can determine how many kids will attend. One rule of thumb for birthday parties is - 1 guest per year old - up to 10 years old. In other words, have 5 kids for a 5th birthday party. Some people like to invite the whole class, to avoid any feelings being hurt. You would probably only do this if you were having the party at a rented facility. Make sure there are enough adults on hand to supervise. The younger the kids - the higher the ratio.

To be really organized, include each party goers phone contact, RSVP check mark once they confirm they are attending and finally a gift column where you can enter what type of gift you received. You can then thank them individually with a thank you card or note after the party. A nice idea is to take a photo of the birthday child with each guest, to include with the thank you note later.

Theme parties create a fun atmosphere so the party host can decide which theme best reflects the mood of the event. Party themes can be created around characters from television, movies, magazine or books. You can also create a party theme related to seasonal holidays or travel destinations. I will explore exciting new party themes in an upcoming article.

Popular birthday party themes include a Magic Party, High School Musical Party, Star Wars Party, Hannah Montana Party, Pirate Birthday Party or Disney Princess Party. Younger kids always enjoy a Barney or Dora the Explorer theme.  Party games, especially ones with little prizes, can make the party extra fun.  Try to make sure everyone wins a little something - so every child goes home feeling happy.

Your event may also call for an entertainer so be sure to book them early to avoid disappointment.

When the event is concluded, your child can hand out the party favours or "loot bags" and thank each guest for coming. These party favours do not need to be elaborate, but just reflect the theme of the day. They can even be handcrafted items made during the party. Dollar stores are great sources for loot bag items. Check for colorful tote or mesh bags to put the loot in. For older children, one nice item - a t-shirt, sports ball or $5 gift card, may be better appreciated.

Kids' Parties are a lot of fun and allow your child to celebrate with friends and family creating a lasting memory. Your advanced preparation and planning will go along way to assuring a successful event and a happy child. Be sure to take plenty of photographs - before you know it they will be planning parties for their own kids!

Halloween Bingo for Kids

Author: Sunil Tanna

Halloween bingo is an enjoyable game to play at schools and community groups (kids love this game), and is also ideal for playing in English as a Second Language ("ESL") classes. It is very simple play, easy to learn, a lot of fun, and does not require expensive materials.

In the game, each player (student in a classroom situation) is given a bingo card (also known as a "bingo sheet", "bingo board" or "bingo worksheet"). The card contains a 5X5 grid of items, each item being a word or phrase related to Halloween such as "ghost", "scary", "spider", "witch", etc. The bingo caller (teacher in a classroom situation) calls out these items in a random order, and players cross the corresponding squares off their bingo cards as they are called out.

In the standard game, the winner is the first player who gets a straight line (horizontal, vertical or diagonal) of five crossed out items, and calls out "Bingo!". If you want a longer game, you can change the winning requirement so that winner needs two intersecting lines of five crossed out items. When playing with a large number of players, it can be fun to allow multiple winners:

1. The first winner is the first player to get the four corner squares and shout "Bingo!"

2. The second winner is the first player to get any line of five items and shout "Bingo!"

3. The third winner is the first player to get any two intersecting lines of five items and shout "Bingo!"

4. The final winner is the first player to cross off every single square on their bingo card and shout "Bingo!". (Tip: You need more than 24 or 25 items in total or everybody will finish their card at the same time).

Of course the key requirement for playing the game is a set of Halloween bingo cards, containing words or phrases relating to the Halloween theme. This is actually easy to obtain, you simply print them yourself using your computer - either by downloading a free set of ready-to-use Halloween printables, or by using a bingo card creator program to create customized bingo cards containing exactly the items that you want.

Ideas for a Kids Halloween Party

Author: Jon Murray

Well, the time has come again. We've hit the end of August, so summer is over and I guess my son feels he needs to have something to look forward to. And that's not going back to school. So as we sit and chat about what we are going to do the last couple of days before school starts, he pops up with, "mommy, can I have another Halloween party this year. Yes, you heard me right, he is already asking about Halloween. On one hand I can't believe what I'm hearing, however, on the other hand I too love Halloween. Actually our whole family loves Halloween. My two kids actually talk about what they are going to ware throughout the whole year. And as soon as the stores come out with Halloween stuff we're there.Back to the party, I say "ok lets have a Halloween party". We sit down and make a list of guests. I'm fortunate as a lot of my sons friends, their parents are friends of mine, so I get have have a little party of my own as well. And some help as well. Once we have our list done, we talk about the costumes. We have to have this little talk, as we had a Halloween party two years ago, and a lot of the little guests wore costumes that had accessories with them. And as we all know, the accessoies these days may not be appropriate to have at a kids Halloween party with 20 of them running around. So I say "there will be no kind of weapons allowed" and of course I get the ahhhhhhh. But that's where it ends. We talk about what we should have to eat and drink and decorations. OH decorations now that is the fun part. Now we can hardly wait until the end of September. We'll make up same invitations, or you can buy them, and well give them out to the guests. We'll decorate the house the last weekend is September. Yes, I said "We'll" the whole family gets involved, it's actually turns into a great day, you're spending time together and preparing for something that you all enjoy. I know you're probably thinking on my gosh that's early. My feeling is, if you're going to take all that time to decorate you should enjoy it for awhile. So out comes the decorations for inside the house and out. Oh yes, you have to decorate the outside as well. That's one of the best parts. When the day arrives we'll have some kid appropriate music, some yummy "scary" snacks, and games to play. I'll only plan a few things for them to do, because as we all know, they'll just want to hang out and make their own fun. We'll have pizza, and blood punch (any kind of red juice) with Jello hands and eyeballs floating in it. Cup cakes that look like spiders, and just the usually Halloween candy. I'll try to make it easy, in reality at this point my kids don't really care about what they eat, they just want their friends around. Now for me and my friends. We care about the food, so I'll make some delicious appetizers, such as my Cheddar Bacon Dip. One thing is for sure, your kids will remember your Halloween party for years to come.

Basis Of Kids Halloween Costume

Author: jackson

Children love to get dressed up everyday. You will be amazed to see that they have more creative ideas than adults. But if you see many online stores are just as creative as those little ones. Most of the online stores make great princes and princess costumes, which your kids would love to wear. Most of the kids love to wear those traditional costumes. Girls love to dress up like princesses while boys love to dress up like cowboy. Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy are still favorites of children and parents. These traditional costumes are given a modern touch in the form of Disney costumes. A little girl would love to wear a Cinderella or Disney Belle costume. They would love to wear Classic snow white or Tinker bell from peter pan. Some little girls would enjoy dressing as Ariel from The little Mermaid-another Disney favorite. Little boys would love to wear Disney costumes such as Peter pan and captain hook. Even Toy story, Buzz light-year and woody Disney costumes are popular among children.

The new trend among children is movie or book costumes. Children can be everything from Jango Fett or Storm trooper in star wars, or Harry potter. Children still love to wear superhero costumes like Spiderman, Batman and Power Rangers. And with all of the new movies coming out, there are sure to be others that will start to be children favorites. Children love to wear costumes like Scooby Doo, Shadow Ninja or Thomas the Tank. Boys can dress up as Zorro, swinging a sword. There are also Sponge bob Square pants, the Hulk, Garfield and Teen Titans as well. And for younger ones, Tigger and Eeyore are great children costumes that are as cute as they are comfortable.

Kids love a kid Halloween costume. Just think how much you would have enjoyed as a kid, shouting the trick or treat question over and over again, on that magical night known as Halloween spook night. Still today, it is still a night that is enjoyed by children and grown-ups alike. You can find Halloween costumes for everyone from baby size to adult; you need a different approach for kids. Some people will just wear any costume you throw at them; they are just wanting to party even in the most ridiculous looking costume; others, on the other hand, are very picky, and will only wear the costume they see fit. So, save yourself some trouble and plan for what kid Halloween costume he/she will wear, in advance. You can dress up your kids in any Christmas themed costumes like elves, snowmen, toy soldiers, angles and more. They’ll be picture perfect and melt your heart for sure. Choose a costume that kid will be comfortable wearing and can move about freely. Don’t make them wear a heavy costume that your kid cannot run around, play games or a dress that hurts.

Non Scary Halloween Fun For Toddlers

Author: Jason Lewis

Halloween is a time when ghosts, witches and goblins seem to pop up everywhere. Sometimes the festivities can be a little too intense for younger children.  Here are some non-spooky Halloween activities that are lots of fun for toddlers to do.

Create Fun with Colored Pasta

  • You can add 1 cup of uncooked pasta noodles to a plastic bag.
  • The zip top plastic bags are perfect for coloring macaroni noodles.
  • In a plastic cup mix 2 tablespoons of isopropyl rubbing alcohol and 4-6 drops of food coloring together.
  • Add this liquid to the noodles, zip the bag and shake gently until the color is absorbed by all of the pasta noodles. This will take 2-3 minutes.
  • Set a colander in the sink and pour the colored noodles into it very carefully. The excess color will be drained from the noodles.
  • Then you can use a slotted spoon to lift the noodles and place them on a cookie sheet that you have lined with some paper towels.
  • Let the noodles dry overnight before using them.

The best colors for Halloween crafts will be noodles that are colored orange, green, yellow and black.

Let your toddlers glue the pasta onto paper plates to create jack o'lantern faces. You can also help them string bracelets that they can wear.

Edible Treats are Fun to Make and Fun to Eat

Use some canned frosting, marshmallows, graham crackers and Halloween candies to create fun treats that can be eaten.

Bean Bag Throw

You will need an old white sheet or tablecloth for this game and some pumpkins that you cut from orange poster board.

Use wide tipped markers to draw some pumpkin targets in several places. You might want to draw some vines and leaves on the sheet with green markers, or just make some circles that resemble bull's eyes. Now spread the cloth on the floor or place it on your lawn. Give the kids 2-3 poster board pumpkins to toss at the sheet. Whoever gets their pumpkins the closest to the targets will win the game.

* If you are using the vines and leaves drawings then the winner is the person that comes closest to landing their pumpkin back on the vine.

Additional Ideas

You can make a simple fishing pole from a small branch and a piece of yarn. Set up a table or a box in the corner of the room and cover it with a Halloween inspired cloth. Have someone sitting behind the table who stays out of view during the game. They should have a supply of small candies and toys with them. Then let each child take turn fishing. Each time the fishing line is cast over the table a small surprise can be tied or taped to the tip.

Put some dry ice in few hollowed out pumpkins and set them around the room. Make sure that toddlers can not reach the pumpkins. The dry ice will produce a smoky haze that will surprise and delight small children.

Candy Corn Activities for Halloween

Author: Gaylene Davis

Now, in the electronic age, this Halloween you can enjoy your candy corn without the guilt. Check out using the fun-sized treats in various fun childrens' activities and games. And if you work at it hard enough, you could even burn off a few calories! And remember, October 30th is American candy corn day. You'll be pressed to find a better way to celebrate than with a couple engaging candy corn games.

Candy Corn Hunts

Little people love hunting games. Conceal fifteen pieces of candy corn in a room – underneath the couch, behind the door, on the counter. You might need to provide a couple " you're getting colder" clues to aid in the effort. If you leave them out in the open, even the smallest hunters should be able to find their bright colors.

If you want to spice up the idea, put the candy in little cellophane bags and close them with decorative ribbon. Hide the bags all over - either inside or out - for a candy corn angle on the traditional Easter egg hunt.

Lay a track of candy corn for children to follow. Guide them around some shrubs, or a maze - or through a messy house. Depending on the cleanliness of their rooms, you could use this idea to help your kids find their closet! If you stick a toothpick into the broader end of the candy, you instantly create an arrow. Use the arrows as clues in your hunt.

Target Practice

Try an All Hallow’s Eve spin on the timeless clothespins in a jar game. Have each kid stand on a sturdy chair and drop the candy corn down into a canning jar. A container with a wider opening, like a bucket or funnel might work out better for really little contestants, while a 2-liter pop bottle would present a far greater contest when the big kids want to strut their stuff.

Remember Bozo's Grand Prize Game? Make your own using a few small sand pails. Rename the game after a preferred Halloween character.

  1. Use a bit of masking tape or a stick to show a boundary line for the children.
  2. Number the pails, placing them in a row moving away from the line, pail number one being closest.
  3. Kids line up behind the line and toss the candies into each consecutive bucket.
  4. Keep tally or issue prizes for hitting each pail.

After putting some candy corn into a small sealed plastic bag, have a "corn bag" toss. After playing catch, try aiming at a target or throwing the bags into a container. For extra Halloween fun, paint a jack-o-lantern face on the front of a box, and cut out holes for his eyes, nose, and mouth. Different points could be awarded for tossing the corn bags through these holes.

Other Fun Stuff

On a smooth surface like the dining room table try some shufflecorn or "bocce corn". Someone acts as the referee, sliding out the first piece of candy corn. He then marks this piece with a toothpick. Players take turns sliding 4 different pieces as near to the referee's mark as possible. The referee identifies which piece is the closest, giving that player a point. Play until a player gets ten points. To reduce confusion, marking each contestant's candy pieces would be helpful.

If you really don't mind a mess - try candy corn and frosting sculptures. Obviously, an appropriately covered table or other safe surface is recommended. Now that I think about, maybe this is better done outdoors. Prizes could be awarded for the most extraordinary sculpture, the tallest one, the neatest one -- or maybe the one that looks most like dad.

String candy corn like popcorn. Not only is the activity entertaining, but also you wind up with great decorating material when you are done! Tape several strands in a doorway like a 70's-style beaded curtain. Add an orange lava lamp for a funky Halloween theme. String some through a spooky tree in the yard. Hang it inside like party streamers or use it for jewelry.

Regardless if you are trying to avoid the sugar calories, looking for entertaining Halloween activities to occupy kids wound up about the holiday, or trying to find something to do with all of that extra candy corn, you can enjoy these guilt-free pleasures.
