Try Scrapbooking Supplies to Make Elegant and Personalized Christmas Ornaments in Less Than 10 Minutes

Author: Linda M. Johnson

Have you ever looked through those boxes of Christmas ornaments of yours either before or after Christmas, and wondered how in the world you might be able to add some sparkle to them, yet still keep it traditional with your Christmas theme?  Taking a few of your plain ornaments every new Holiday season and adorning them with easy to find scrapbooking items to make personalized Christmas ornaments will add some new life to your selection in a custom way, and leave your guests thinking that you spent a fortune on your ornaments.

For this project we decided to just use a large plastic satin finished ornament.  As was previously mentioned, you can also look through your existing collection and find some of your plain solid color ornaments to use.  It is important to stick to solid color ornaments because of the designs you will be adorning them with.  You don't want to take away from the design.

Apply peel and stick crystal stickers typically used for scrapbooking to the ornament. Stickers can be applied to cover the entire ornament, or you may want to apply them vertically, horizontally, or diagonally to create a pattern. Next, tie a satin ribbon , ¾ inch or smaller works best, to the top of the ornament creating a bow.  Try using a plaid ribbon with colors that compliment the color of your ornaments.  Simple!  You have a new personalized Christmas ornament.

Supplies:

  • Medium to Large solid color plastic ornaments with a satin finish. We used gray.
  • 1 package of clear crystal-looking stickers used for scrapbooking.
  • Satin Ribbon – ¾ inch or smaller. Plaid or stripes in two colors work best for contrast.
  • Scissors

Make your Own Christmas Cards with Royalty Free Images

Author: Jameson Meer

For a great personalized and home made touch, try making your own Christmas card this season. Being a great designer is not a big deal, you just have to look for ideas you can get from Royalty free Christmas clipart graphic images you can buy online and download to your computer. And this way you get to reuse the same pictures for many years to come, as you can print, cut and paste the same images as many times as you want to make your Christmas cards and crafts.

First thing is to look for pictures that you think might inspire others on receiving your card. Good quality Royalty free Christmas clipart graphic images are a great help to make your Christmas Cards creative and memorable for your friends when they receive them. There are also software programs that you can use to create your card.

A greeting card that was made by your own hands is more significant than buying from the stores. Making greeting cards can help you express your feelings and give your special heartfelt regards to people.

Picking your own format for your own special kind of card, the materials you are going to use and especially the message you are going to include is very important. Collect greetings and card stock materials and decide the layout and themes you want to use.

If you decide to use your software, just follow these steps to make your Christmas cards creative:

  1. There are various software programs you can use to make your greeting cards. These include InDesign, PageMaker, and other publishing software. But before making your card, make drafts.
  2. Pick a format for your greeting card.
  3. Choose images and clip-arts found on the Internet such as Royalty free Christmas clipart graphic images. If you want to make your card simple, just stick to only one image to be inserted. But if you want to be artistic, it is recommended to choose images that best fit your format and even your card message.
  4. You can also modify the images you have selected. You can change the size and even the color to make your card layout better. You can also use frames or any templates that you think it may fit for your greeting card.
  5. Select the appropriate font. Select large size font letterings so that you can read it clearly. For making Greeting Cards, having only one font is more professional than having too many font styles and colours.
  6. Arrange the graphics and the text. Make it consistent.
  7. Add credit lines or any notes.
  8. Last thing to do is to print the whole thing. As you can see, you have made your own original greeting Card without any time looking for a new one.

If you prefer to hand make your Christmas cards instead, without using software, you just print out the pictures you want from your selection of Royalty free Christmas clipart graphic images in your computer file, and then cut out the pictures you want to use. Glue them to the card stock you want, add a greeting and you are all done.

Preserving Memories - A Basic Training About Scrapbooks For The Kids

Author: Abhishek Agarwal

Memories express the events that had happened to people in the past. They try to remember them often. Such memories must be preserved so that they are easily recollected. Parents had realized its necessity and they started encouraging their children to involve in scrapbooking at an early stage. They encourage them to make their own scrapbook in to preserve their childhood memories.

Want your memories to be safe and funny to look at? Scrapbooking is one of the effective methods to do so. Anyone can narrate a story with their photo collections. The reason is memories are always intact. These experiences and practices can teach something to children. They can learn on how to be patient, how to be creative, value of resourcefulness and how to persevere, etc…

The Initial Phase:

Your work on scrapbooking can be shared with your kids. It is a pleasant activity. Scrapbooking is restricted to kids when it comes to sharing. They can be shared with your friends and co-workers too. But there are few essentials that you have to imbibe before you start sharing your scrapbook works.

Make sure that your kids develop some liking and interest for arts and crafts. This is very essential in making a kid work on scrapbooks. Kids who have interests in arts and crafts can be easily are the perfect ones to learn the activity. This is because they already possess the talent of creating wonderful works.

But it does not matter if your kid has no interests in arts and crafts. Do not conclude that they can never be trained for scrapbooking. It is now time to expose them to a completely new world of fun and joy.

The next thing that comes into consideration is the workplace. The work place should be spacious for the children to do their work. Scrapbooking needs a lot of papers and other materials. It comes easy when they can find the required things from the scattered materials. This thing is very essential for developing the habit or interest of scrapbooking. The kids can leave their work as it is so that they can continue it the next morning. The work is left undisturbed.

The kids need materials to work on a scrapbook. They should be provided with sufficient amount of materials. To start with the basic, basic materials must be made available to them as they are common. The most basic materials that are required for training kids for scrapbooking are: scrapbook paper- size of 12x12, color pencils, pens, pictures, scrapbooking die-cuts, rubber stamps, cut-outs, tools like punchers, scissors, trimmers, rulers, foam, glue, removers, stickers of various designs, color, tags, templates, totes, organizers, and transparencies, albums or old scrapbooks, alphabets, books or scrapbooking magazines for inspiring ideas, old cards, eyelets for adding beauty, brads, nails, tacks, colored, some specialty papers, and few apparels like as scrapbook kits that can be used as starters.

Some parents cannot afford to buy some scrapbooking materials and supplies that are expensive. But they have a desire to involve their children in scrapbooking. Here are some tips that make scrapbooking a low-cost activity.

1) Collect old pictures and hand them to your kids so that they can make use of it in scrapbooks. Make sure that they are not important.

2) Get some double prints for your kids from the developing center whenever you visit them. Ask your kids to use them on their scrapbooks.

3) Usually, there are some materials left over after the completion of a project. Do not throw them. Instead collect them for so that your kids use them in their next project.

4) Inspect your old usages so that something can be made use of it.

5) Teach our kids the value of time. Teach them on how to make efficient use of the time available by discarding the unnecessary materials, supplies that are of no use.

Christmas Face Painting Tips

Author: Jackie Strong

Face painting is one of the most creative and fun hobbies that anyone who has an artistic side to them could take up. Sadly, many feel that, if they can’t draw perfect pictures, then they wouldn’t be any good at face painting so tend to dismiss it. This is a great shame because there are ways around painting designs such as using stencils which many employ until they’re confident with painting freehand.

athena face painting designAs Christmas is approaching faster than Santa can harness the reindeer to his sledge, many of you will be already creating and practising your very own fabulous designs. There will be those among you that would love to follow suit, but have yet to apply their first brushstroke. With just a few weeks left to the festive season, now is a perfect time to take the plunge. It really isn’t as difficult as you may think. You’ll be  christmas face painting your family and friends in no time at all.

FIRST STEPS: Take things easy at first with simple to do designs. Cheek art is a perfect starting point with basic little patterns featuring flowers, leaves, holly and berries. Remember that the theme is Christmas so red, white, green, silver and gold are essential colours.

COLOURS: Don’t make the mistake that many learners make and rush out to buy every colour under the rainbow. All you need are your primary colours which are blue, yellow, red and black and white. From these you can mix any colour and shade you want, and it will keep costs down.

PAINTING WHISKERS: Try using a small fine pointed brush, working outwards across the cheeks. For any fine lines you may be painting, you will find that liquid paints are the best.

cat face painting designFUR EFFECT: When trying to create a fur effect, use a medium-sized brush, working from the centre outwards. That way the edges taper off. Have a go on paper or a face painting practice pad first until you get to grips with the motion needed for your required effect.

ADVANTAGE OF SPONGES: These will play an important part in your face painting kit, being perfect for applying base coats, large areas of paint on the face and body, and great for blending colours. TIP make them go further by cutting them in half

GLITTER AND STICK-ON JEWELS: Depending what design you are doing, stick-on jewels, diamante and glitter can be used to stunning effect. However, as with face paint, you need to remember to use only glitter and stick-on jewels that are safe to put on a person’s skin (eg body glitter). NEVER use aluminum glitter - polyester only.  Aluminum glitter can really hurt the eyes and skin.

FAMILY AFFAIR: Use your family and friends to practice on, trying out different ideas. If you begin practising now, you’ll be confident enough by Christmas to paint a whole face and there are some quite spectacular and highly popular choices to have a go at. The Ice Queen and animals will always be favourites along with the traditional Santa and Rudolph.

Children's Christmas Make - Cardboard Nativity Scene

Author: Suie Roberts

To make a cardboard nativity scene al you need is...

Loo roll tubes or other tubes, scarps of paper and coloured card, glue, scissors, felt tip pens, cotton wool, and a few sequins for decoration.

To make the figures...

The loo roll tubes for the main body of the figure. Wrap coloured paper around your tube so that it completely covers one half of the tube. This becomes the body and the bare tube becomes the figure’s head.

Cut out two small rectangles from some card, these become the arms. Stick them into place n the figure’s body, towards the top of the coloured paper. Stick a 'D' shaped piece of flesh coloured card on the end of the arm to form a hand.

Draw on the figure’s face with felt tip pens. You can also draw on clothing details or patterns.

Extras...

The shepherd holds a crook, its a hooked tool which shepherds use to put around a sheep's neck as a sort of temporary lead to guide the sheep where the shepherd wants it to go. Cut a long hooked shape tool from card and stick it standing upright in the shepherds hand as though he was holding it.

The three wise men wear crowns or a turban. Cut these out of coloured paper and wrap them around the top of the wise men's heads. Decorate them with sequins to make them look jewel encrusted.

Joseph holds a lantern. Cut a long stick with a 'V' shape at the top. Stick this into Joseph's hand so that it is standing upright. This pole is to suspend the lantern from.

To make the lantern, take a small, rectangle piece of card and fold it in half so that the top and bottom of the lantern are together. Cut slits along the folded edge. Open up the card and now curve it round so that the two side edges meet and slightly overlap stick these two side edges together. When the glue has dried off a little, give the lantern a little squeeze so that the lantern forms '' Shape. Insert a roll of flame coloured paper into the lantern, glue and trim so that it fits snugly into place. This makes the lantern glow as though it were lit. Stick on some threat or a thin strip of card so that the lantern can be hung from Joseph's pole.

Sheep are made by covering a loo roll tube in cotton wool. Cut out a face shape from card to stick on one end of the tube. Cotton buds form the sheep's legs and feet. Cut a cotton bud in half to form two legs, glue all the legs into position.

Jesus is made from a rolled up piece of card, with coloured paper covering his body.

The manger is made from a loo roll tube. Cut the tube in half lengthways to form two guttering looking parts. Cut one into leg type shapes on each side and stick the two half tubes together, back to back.

Arrange all the figures on a table to recreate the nativity scene.

You could also attach a thread from your figures and hang them from the Christmas tree.

Indoor and Outdoor Christmas Decorating

Author: Amelie Mag

Christmas customs are not homogenous all over the world, but among the most popular ones we can surely find exchanging of gifts, kissing under the mistletoe, decorating the Christmas tree and other indoor and outdoor Christmas decorations and Christmas ornaments. But while preparing your house for the holiday season you should not forget to pay attention to the basic idea of Christmas: spending quality time with your families and friends and thinking about the baby Jesus’ birth. Your soul must be prepared too for holidays!

All your Christmas decorations must have a magical spirit and must reflect your warm and tender feelings about this holy time of the year. You should search for new ideas every year so your Christmas ornaments will get the maximum appreciation, as many of your relatives and friends will visit you during this white season.

In order to create an intimate and warm atmosphere in your house, you can place colourful ribbons or bows on your curtains, chairs or door handles. You can add a touch of joy by using different colours instead of the usual green, red and white. But you can also choose a theme for your Christmas decorations, using only a colour or two. For a better effect, the tableware can follow the same pattern. The holiday garlands, the window candles and the lights on the front windows can also contribute to the charm of the decoration. You may be sure that your children will feel very enthusiastic about creating Christmas ornaments from coloured paper or other materials and this will stimulate their creativity.

The Christmas tree is perhaps the most important of all Christmas decorations. It can be real or made of plastic; it can be in miniature or tall. All that matters is what it stands for: a celebration of God and Jesus, a manifestation of joy and appreciation, a period when everyone tries to be a better person. The way one chooses Christmas ornaments is rather important for everyone because they can show the large variety of feelings related to this magic time. Children are the ones that dream most about the candy canes, stars, bells, toys, socks, little snowmen, Santa Clause hats hung in the Christmas tree. They dream more than adults and they probably even feel more during this period. So pay special attention to the star or the fairy on the top of the tree: it will be noticed (by everyone, not just your children) for sure! And do not forget to buy electric flashing lights, white or coloured, to make your tree look more animated!

Your children and the carol singers will love some suitable for eating Christmas ornaments. Chocolate coins or homemade cookies with a coloured, silver or gold wrapping will look delicious while sparkling in the tree and will tempt the guests of all ages! The same effect will be produced by other important Christmas ornaments - of the table - : the Christmas cakes, which you can cook and even decorate according to your imagination.

You should also think about some interesting and elegant Christmas decorations for your living room table: white glittery pinecones, little snowmen, white doves, white or coloured berries and flowers, silver bells, angels and anything that makes you feel happy. Everything can be sprayed with snow, giving only a little light dusting or making it look like a heavy snowfall, upon your personal taste.

Speaking about outdoor Christmas decorations, you might even enjoy a banner to tell everybody how happy you are about the holiday season, to wish them ‘Merry Christmas!’ or to make sure that Santa will not pass by your house. For many families it is very important to decorate their homes with strings of lights, which can have many shapes and sizes and seem to be the most popular outdoor Christmas ornaments. There are also dangling lights which resemble Santa Claus, snowmen, angels or icicles. There’s no limit to how you can show your joy regarding the Christmas time.

In the past, all that people used was a wreath of holly on the door, but now we can see Santa climbing up the roofs, fake snow on all the windows or even a pre-made figure or statue with lighting capabilities. (This can take the shape of Santa, a cartoon character, a religious figure or can even represent a biblical scene.) Many people manufacture their own decorations instead of buying them or look for exclusive products to make their house the most admired in the neighbourhood. For them as well as for us, the spirit of Christmas has to light everyone’s hearts and they do the best they can to bring a smile on their neighbour’s faces.

The Great Variety Of Christmas Ornaments

Author: Jon Kelly

The Christmas decorations you place on your tree is the most common place to find Christmas ornaments; usually bought, but with a modicum of craft skills and imagination you can make countless new Christmas ornaments. Christmas ornaments are usually made of glass, china, wood or resin.

Christmas ornaments are viewed by manufacturers as the entry into whole ranges of themed Christmas decorations, not just the decorations for your tree; they hope that the purchase of Christmas ornaments will lead to further purchases in the same range.

The original idea that Christmas ornaments were hung on the trees to mollify the goods and to ask for favour from them was swamped by the marketing industry; prior to the introduction of Christianity, Christmas ornaments primarily consisted of fruits, flowers and other colorful items hung on the tree.

Familiar Christmas Ornaments

In Germanic countries the Christmas tree has been decorated with ornaments for hundreds of years. This practice was popularized in Britain by Prince Albert , Queen Victoria 's husband during the middle part of the nineteenth century. During the 19th century Christmas ornaments would consist of hand carved Christian icons, such as angels. Before the introduction of the now ever present twinkling fairy lights, Christmas trees were decorated with a special and now rarely seen Christmas ornament - the candle, now pushed into Christmas ornament history as a health and safety hazard! These beautiful carvings and candles have been replaced by fairly lights and brightly colored baubles; just as fruits and biscuits have become chocolates and sugared candies.

In Sweden the traditional Christmas ornaments are made from wood, this is still the most common tree decorations. The Swedish have created an industry around their Christmas ornaments and now export them throughout the world. There is also a flourishing industry in the hand blown Christmas ornaments, the shimmer and shine of these ornaments make these very special and quite charming.

Just as there are traditional Christmas ornaments there are also traditional colors that are used on the decorations, these are gold, silver, green and red.

Personalized Christmas ornaments have become more in demand as people search for new and innovative ideas to impress. The best way to ensure that you have something unique is to create something yourself. This makes for a great family activity and will be much appreciated by the younger children.

When to put up the Christmas Tree

Traditionally the Christmas tree is put up in the USA after Thanksgiving. But in modern times it has got earlier and it is fairly common to see them within the first two weeks of December. This is probably due to the shops stocking decorations earlier each year in order to maximize profits. Some believe the first Sunday of Advent is the time to start putting up your tree, while others start decorating the tree as late as Christmas Eve.

Old Christmas ornaments have become collectors' items and are in much demand. This market is fuelled by people who are trying to recreate the perceived Christmas spirit of yesteryear. However you decorate your Christmas tree it is important that you personalize it in some way so that it can be something that is pleasing to look at and right for creating the festive spirit.

Christmas ornaments have become iconic in representing the coming of the festive season. Once you see the first decorations you know that the Christmas cheer is well underway.

Walco Bead Co. was one of the largest bead companies in the United States at the start of the 1900s. It was a landmark in New York's "bead alley" at 37 West 37th Street.
Walco's technique in marketing was to manufacture bead kits to encourage adults and children to make projects. Many styles of these kits were available, mainly Indian beading belts. During the Depression, beads were an inexpensive and Bead Crafting is a time consuming hobby that produced beautiful results. These Kits included beads, a bead loom, string, and instructions.
In the 1930s with the addition of the "Official Boy Scout Beadcraft Outfit" all kits came with full illustrated easy-to-read instructions, "Walco Indian Bead Loom". With this complete beadcraft outfit you can make a variety of colorful Indian belts, rings, neckerchief slides, and other beautiful beaded objects.
In the 1950s, Walco introduced jewelry kits and larger "Bead Embroidery Kits". These were eye catching for women to glamorize their clothes - their sweaters, blouses, dresses, scarves, stoles, and jackets. These kits were sold as complete kits and patterns were available separately.
Beaded Bouquets was yet another kit available, in a soft cover book titled "WALCO Instructions for making BEADED BOUQUETS". This contained instructions for making California Poppy, Rose Spray, Rose Bouquet, Tulips and Daisies, Sweetheart Roses, Apple Blossoms and Lily-of-the-Valley, Country Charmer, Geranium Garden, and Iris-Daisy-Daffodil.
