Fresh Ideas to Celebrate Christmas with Family

Author: Melanie Smith

Christmas is a widely celebrated even throughout the world. You will find in this article varying ways on how families celebrate Christmas all over the world.

Christmas practice #1:

• Buy music from the grand English cathedrals. Collect stories about the Salisbury and Worchester Cathedral of England. As you occupy yourself with your music during the holidays inform your family the stories you have collected and how the grand organs were played in these Cathedrals and the church choir sang during the Christmas holiday.

Christmas practice #2:

• Set some time aside to do a little special holiday baking. Absorb the whole family in the process. Box up your goodies as presents to give to family, friends and neighbors as they stopover and distribute their presents to you. Encourage your children to give out the gifts of home baked goods.

• Fruitcakes and homemade chocolate chip cookies are a must during Christmas baking. Keep on creating your own version of baked goods every year

Christmas practice #3:

• As you start your baking mores, collect your tales of the real meaning of Christmas and persuade your children to pass on these stories to their future offspring and on and on through every generation. While you doing the sifting, stirring, baking and preparing the gift packages say some tales to your children and other family members.

Christmas practice #4:

• As the time of year starts, read or buy audio tapes of the Christmas story and the Dickens' A Christmas Carol, or any other much loved Christmas story. Adorn the house and put up the Christmas tree as your stories in the background are playing.

• Be a good model by keeping a spirit of charity, peacemaking and kindness throughout Christmas time.

• Bear in mind and in your story telling about the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the moment when God became one of us to share our day by day experiences as we do, and that Christmas is the moment in time we celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.

Christmas practice #5:

• Buy a nativity scene and have this set up in an important place in your home

• Every time a child is born into your family, buy another figurine to put in to the scene and show these each year. Your figurines can be something you wish to be a symbol of each new person born into your family. When in-laws are added, insert another figurine to your nativity scene.

Christmas practice #6:

• Commemorate Christmas Eve and celebrate with your parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and other member of the family.

• Initiate an open house on Christmas Day for anybody who doesn't have any place to go to and give a present or home made baked goodies and dinner to those who have no Christmas at all.

• You may want to consider arranging a rotation with your neighbors in your locality for the big open house Christmas party to be made each year.

Christmas practice #7:

• Dress your kids up in costumes like Mary and Joseph and hop from house to house, requesting if they can come in to sing Christmas carols or deliver baked goodies.

These are just some of the many ways we can involve ourselves in the joy and hope of the Christmas. Our way of life will teach our children a relevant lesson in life of the reason why Christ was born and how he would like us to treat one another - with utmost love and kindness.

Creative Christmas Gift Ideas for Her & Him

Author: Krista QQ(www.123giftfactory.com)

Tired of endless mall walking in search of a perfect Christmas gift that is nowhere to be found? Hate giving gift cards or gift certificates and cash just because it seems impossible to come up with anything better?

This holiday season, find unique ways to let the people in your life know that you care. Get creative, get personal and get fun; get a gift that will bring joy to her or him you love this Christmas.

Projects to Do and Make

Instead of toys that quickly lose their appeal, projects to make and do entertain during the process of creation and then become all the more special because they were made by the recipient. A craft set for making beaded jewelry, a T-shirt or canvas bag and special fabric crayons and pens for decorating, or a small set of wood working tools and pieces of cut wood can provide hours of entertainment. These gifts also often teach useful skills and encourage artistic abilities. Some kits can be purchased with the supplies and tools included. For a more personalized gift or to monitor the quality of the tools included a gift giver might choose the supplies and tools and pick a useful bag or box that could serve as storage later.

Homemade Items that Everyone Needs

Sometimes a gift item of a usable, consumable product with a personalized touch can be both affordable and appreciated. Children’s artwork can be scanned and made into calendars or greeting cards. Lip balm, bath salts, or bath oil can be made with items from the grocery and craft store. For kids simple recipes abound for play dough, homemade bath crayons, and homemade sidewalk chalk.

Since everyone needs to eat, ready-to-make meal mixes such as soup in a jar or muffin and bread mix can be great gifts as well. The gift of something useful need not be boring. It can be a playful twist on the usual or something a bit more extravagant than expected. But the element of usefulness ensures the gift will be appreciated rather than stored away.

Gift Tickets to Local Attractions, Museums or Performances

Gifts of tickets to local attractions, museums, or performances can encourage the appreciation of the arts. Families might appreciate an annual pass to a zoo or Children’s Museum near their home. Some performing arts centers offer packets of tickets to various events. Concerts or even movie theater tickets can be great gifts especially as families cut back on the entertainment budget and such attractions become a rare treat.

Instead of focusing on things to purchase, gifts that focus on activities can bring smiles and avoid both the shopping pitfalls and the return lines.Gifts that interest and give fun to the recipient need not be expensive or even purchased. With some planning and creative ideas, thought, smart gift givers can get through Christmas with some money left in their pocket.

What Kind of Gift Do Children Want for Christmas?

Author: D. Halet

I work in an elementary school and the winter weather in our beautiful rainy country does not allows children to play in the garden. So, I always have to look for activities to occupy the children.

Last week, on a rainy day, children were unable to play in the garden, I thus tried to entertain them by asking them what they wanted as a Saint Nicholas gift.

Belgian people - as well as in the Netherlands, Germany, France and some Eastern Europe Countries - celebrate and dedicate Saint Nicholas (SinterKlaas) to children. Saint Nicholas is the Great Patron of Schoolboys and penetrates into our houses on December 6th.

One week before December 6th, each night, Saint Nicholas brings sweets in the slippers of good children (traditional version) or one month before December 6th, he brings many more sweets in the slippers of our good children (this is the commercial version).

Shopping malls also organize Saint Nicholas areas that consist in displaying scenes made from toys; such as train sets simulating real situations or houses full of old fashioned dolls. Children have also the opportunity to meet Saint Nicholas and communicate their wish list to him.

A picture of Saint Nicholas holding our child on his laps generally closes this fairy journey.

On December 5th Eve, parents and children dress the dining room table with a plate full of cookies and a glass of milk for Saint Nicholas, a carrot for his ass.

On December 6th, early in the morning, the glass is empty, the carrot has been eaten, and there are only crumbs of biscuits. Do not worry, parents do not have to eat these sweets and vegetables.

The table is now lined with dozens of toys, sweets, marzipan, chocolate bars...

Saint Nicholas has a companion: Père Fouettard (Zwarte Piet or Black Pete) who punishes wicked children.

Belgian children generally receive clothes and books at Christmas.

It appears that children have an immoderate passion for video game consoles, such as Playstation (3 of course) or WII... while the heroes of American comic strips become the heroes of Belgian children.

Here are the toys kids want to receive as a Saint Nicholas or Christmas gift:

For boys and girls aged of 10 years old and more:

- Playstation
- Nintendo DS
- WII
- XBox 360

If they received the video game console already, they wish to receive video games, such as Dragonball, Street Fighter, Medal of Honor... The young generation seems to love violent games.

Boys aged between 4 years old and 10:

- Jeep or Helicopter
- Tractor
- Batman
- Spiderman
- comic strip heroes accessories

Girls aged between 4 years old and 10:

- Barbie
- Doll house
- Doll accessories
- Books

Some of these children love music and they asked to Saint Nicholas or Santa Claus (sometimes both) to bring them an electric guitar or drums.

A romantic young girl wishes to receive a diary such as the one of Bridget Jones.

As for my fifteen years old son, he asked for books. What kind of books? Manga Comic strips.

All children wish to receive: chocolate, marzipan, candy, etc.

Finally, traditions are important for our children: no Saint Nicholas and no Christmas time without sweets.

Christmas Party Games Young Children

Author: Christina Marks

When planning Christmas games for young children, the options are endless. Make sure you provide room to run, do a little planning and the kids are sure to have a good time.

Let's start with a few relay race ideas. Begin with a candy cane relay. Give each team 4 candy canes (and be sure to have a few more in case some break) and have the child who's running hold the candy canes between their fingers, with the crooked part of the cane hanging over their fingers. But tell them not to use their thumbs. The canes should be just carefully perched between their fingers.

The children run to their teammate, exchange the candy canes (again, only using fingers), and that teammate runs to the other end and does the same. The game is over when only one team still has candy canes that haven't dropped on the floor.

Another fun relay that kids love is pass the ornament. In this game, each team gets one ornament (a lightweight, basic thin glass one is fine) and a straw. They must blow through the straw to get the ornament down the line, then the next child blows on their straw to get the ornament back down the line. Make sure each child has a fresh straw, as you don't want everyone to get sick.

This next simple relay game can be played with just about anything that signifies Christmas. You could have the children pass a Santa hat (perhaps requiring them to wear the hat as they run down the line) or have them wear Christmas socks that they then have to take off and get to the next child during the relay.

"Santa Says" is a fun game that all children will know how to play because it's just like "Simon Says". Before playing it, confirm that each child is familiar with "Simon Says" and then create a series of orders from "Santa", like "Santa says, touch your toes", "Santa says bend your knees" and so on. But sometimes leave the "Santa says" part off and trick the children. Always a popular game!

Young children love the "freeze dance" which is often played in preschool and kindergarten. Only in this game, you create a Christmas freeze dance: here you play some Christmas music, let the children do a little dance, then turn the music off and the children must "freeze". If there will be several sit-down games played at the party, this is a great way to let the children use some energy before they have to sit down and focus on the other games.

Young children can play the "clue" game as long as the questions are kept to their knowledge of various things surrounding Christmas. The game is played like this: the teacher gives a series of clues about something Christmas related and keeps giving clues until someone shouts out the answer. It might go something like this:

Answer: Santa's sleigh
Clue: I'm thinking of something big
Clue: It helps Santa on Christmas Eve
Clue: It holds a lot of presents
Clue: It's very fast

You keep giving clues until he children figure out the answer. Since these are young children, don't give clues that are too difficult or beyond their knowledge.

Kids love toss games, so why not create a snowball toss game at Frosty's belly? Get or make a large cardboard cutout of Frosty the Snowman and cut a hole in his stomach. You can create snowballs out of several things. Take plastic bags and put mini marshmallows inside, or use Styrofoam balls. If you use the latter, don't make the children throw the "snowballs" very far since the Styrofoam won't go that far. Have the children stand a distance back from Frosty (you can determine this depending on the age of the children and space you have available) and have them toss the snowballs into Frosty's tummy. First one to get all 3 snowballs in the tummy wins a prize!

Activities to keep the family entertained this Christmas

Author: Bob Brightside

Some children will happily entertain themselves with pictures, drawings and paintings but there are many children out there who want to get involved with activities and sports. If that sounds like your kids then you are in luck.

There are many sports and activities that would interest even the most outgoing child. Don’t worry if you fancy a go as there will be plenty of opportunities to do so. There are a range of places you can go for a weekend that have plenty on offer over the festive period with a variety of shows that are both general themed and Christmas themed to get everyone in the mood.

If you are looking for a place to go where there are plenty of activities to do then you need to get down to one of the holiday parks that are in the UK. If you have sporty children then Basketball, Tennis and Football where the children can learn some new skills and test them out on the court or pitch. These sports are coached by fully trained and qualified coaches so your children will be in safe hands.

Mountain climbing, Go-Karting and the High ropes are there to provide a stern test for older children and adults. The high ropes are particularly testing and require good upper body strength and balance, all safety measures are taken on these and every other activity to ensure that everyone who uses them are strapped in and won’t get hurt.

There is a fun element to many activities at the holiday parks including karaoke which I am sure will have many people up trying to impress the audience with their best vocal talents. ‘The Beat Goes On’ is a fun activity for all the family and is definitely one where the kids can let off some steam. This basically involves a big drumming session where the aim is to make as much noise as possible, something the children will thrive on.

If you fancy getting out of the house in between or even for Christmas then you should definitely consider one of the holiday parks as there is fun for all the family as well as great dining option, brilliant accommodation and a good Christmas spirit.

With UK family breaks being so popular at the moment you should consider holiday parks as your next trip. With Bognor Regis hotels you will have all the comfort and services you require after a fun filled day.
