Online Store

Another great way to sell your crafts, is to open an Online Store..

It is a great way to keep your crafts continuously on the internet. You can keep track of visits, see which crafts do well, and have buyers from all over the world if you choose!

If you decide to take that next step in selling your arts and crafts on the internet, decide on which products you will make and sell and take shipping into consideration.

If your creation is huge and heavy, it may not be very profitable to sell this particular item online, as packaging and shipping prices can sometimes be higher than the item you are selling, and that can put off a potential customer.

Also make sure to invest in a good digital camera, or hire someone who takes great pictures. Ever heard the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words"?.. This is such an important part of selling any item on the internet. You need to take different views of the item, such as front, back, side, and make sure there are not other distractions in the picture. A great way to take good pictures, is to set up a area just for your pictures, with a sheet for a background, or a setup that shows your piece in a natural setting. Take your time taking good pictures.

One of the most important pieces of advice on taking great pictures, is to include a measurement not only in your description, but also show a ruler or tape measure beside your piece in the picture. You would be amazed at how many people have bought small pieces off of me, and then were surprised by the size, even though I totally explained the size in the description. Customers tend to have a few seconds to scan your item, and the first place they will look is the picture. If you show the size of your piece, especially if its miniature, such as jewelry and collectibles, a ruler in the picture or even a dollar bill, just to give them an idea of its size.

Having your own online store is a great way to add to your sales, you can put your website on your business cards and flyers, and in your emails to friends and families.. You can separate your crafts or creations into categories, and if you have good pictures.. that's even better! check it out! It might just be the ideal road for you to follows for selling your crafts online!

Hobbies Arts And Crafts Use Of Arts And Crafts Projects In Schools

Author: James Brown

The training provided by teachers in the use of arts and crafts projects in schools might begin at the Kindergarten level. The arts and crafts projects are basically simple but serve to teach youngsters how to expand on the knowledge they learned in class. Some of these arts and crafts projects will use pictures to help children learn to count.

The use of arts and crafts projects in schools will also teach children to perform mathematical equations. While in the First Grade, students learn to color and paste clever characters together so that the numbers equal the proper amount of the math problem put before them. Students can correct their answers by re-pasting the picture to another location, or adding another to get the correct sum.

There are many ways to expand knowledge in the use of arts and crafts projects in schools. One of the favorite arts and crafts projects that is used at the Sixth Grade level of schooling is the construction of a volcano. This arts and crafts project will require a great deal of creativity and will allow the student to combine art and Science in a very realistic form.

The use of Arts and Crafts projects in schools may sometimes require a waiver from the parent. The volcano project is one arts and crafts project that requires students to mix chemical compounds that would normally be found in any home. School policies, however, dictate that the students submit a waiver for damages in case some of the baking soda used in the eruption of the volcano makes its way into the eyes of students during the school day.

The use of Arts and Crafts Projects in schools can be extended to the High School level when the Arts and Crafts projects are used as decorations for proms or other class parties. Students can get very creative with their Arts and Crafts projects when they are allowed to create hearts and flowers and any other shape to reflect a festive glint on any type of school celebration.

The sports events at school will give students the chance to show team spirit and learn to express themselves with color and graphic art. The use of Arts and Crafts projects in schools can be elaborate banners that show how tough their football team is, and can serve a dual role of exhibiting the school colors and motto to the fans that come to the various sports events such as football, baseball and basketball. There are many ways that schools can reduce the cost of educating by allowing the students to provide artwork for the walls in the classroom.

Summer Reading: Police ...

Surviving Summer With the Children

Author: Christopher Anderson

Ah! School is almost over for another year. Over will be days filled with getting up and getting to school on time, homework, last minute school projects and school programs. For about two weeks after school ends everyone is loving life. But then reality sets in. Children become bored. The parent's normal schedule is gone. The rest of the summer is a constant challenge.

As a young mother, "Summer Vacation" was a real challenge. I had seven children, very little money, a small hot house and a husband that was out of town most of the time. It was enough to drive the most stable mother to the edge of insanity. So, we would pack up the old station wagon with a picnic lunch and find places to go. Over the years we visited every park, lake and canyon in three counties. We visited museums, went to community events and toured local factories. Once a month we would go somewhere that required money such as a zoo or amusement park. Our summer days were busy and fun.

I was lucky in many ways that I had the ability to stay home with my children. In today's world most parents have to work to survive. This only compounds the problem of keeping children constructively busy during summer vacation. It is a proven fact that when most children are left to their own devices for extended periods of time they tend to get into trouble.

What is a parent to do? The key to surviving the summer is planning. It is good to provide a variety of activities. Whether as a parent you have the time to spend with your children or you leave them with someone while you work, it is important to have a plan. Even if you work, it is important to plan time with your children doing constructive and fun activities. Spending time with our children will create lasting memories and traditions that will be handed down for generations. These are some activities that have worked well for others.

1. Museums. Everywhere there are museums. Most counties have may museums. Museums can be entertaining as well as educational.

2. Parks. Pack a picnic lunch and visit a different park every week until you have found all the parks in your area.

3. Reading Chart. It is important for children to keep reading over the summer or they can loose some of the progress they have made. Make a chart and have rewards for certain numbers of pages read. There can be small rewards for a few pages read and then when a larger number of pages are accomplished a trip or large item can be the reward.

4. Neighborhood Carnival. Have your children plan a carnival for the neighborhood. They can make up games and serve bags of popcorn or candy.

5. Theme Days. There are many days that celebrate everything from donuts to airplanes. Hera are a few examples: National Doughnut day in June 6th, Space Day is July 16th and Peter Rabbit Day is July 28th. Research what days fall in your schedule and plan activities for the day around the theme.

6. Nature Scavenger Hunt. Send the children into the yard or neighborhood or take them to a park. Have them find as many different kinds of leaves and rocks that they can. When they are done, have them research what kind of leaves and rocks they are and then have them make a picture or craft out of the items.

7. Bird watching. Obtain a book about birds. Make binoculars by gluing two toilet paper rolls together and having the children decorate them. Send them out with their binoculars to look for as many different kind of birds as they can. Making and hanging a bird feeder will attract birds to your yard.

8. Meals. Let each child help plan and prepare a meal each week.

9. Historical Sites. Every town has a history. Find the historical sites in your area, learn about them and visit them.

10. Tye dye. Learn how to tye dye clothes. Buy white T-shirts and let the children design their own shirts.

As you plan out your activities you will have a lot of fun, create memories and most importantly, retain your sanity as you go through the summer months.

While selecting a craft project for your child, you must consider his interest and age. It may as simple as making a ship using matchsticks, or making different masks from chart papers and so on. Making handmade greeting cards on various occasions also is a good idea of showcasing your talent and saving money at the same time. You may use different material for making these cards from paints, to glitters, to mirrors, talk sheet etc. You may not need to spend a lot of money every time, there are many craft ideas which can be made by using many waste materials from your home.

Arts and Crafts to Improve Your Childs Learning

Author: Michiel Van Kets

Making a craft of any particular form is the way an individual can show creativity in what they are doing. Often you will find that when crafts are made there is a specific purpose in mind, perhaps Christmas or Birthday presents, or just a simple thank you to a friend or relative. Many arts can be inexpensive and the real purpose behind the craft regardless of whether it is practical or for display is to offer something you have created by hand to a person who you think will appreciate the receiving of said craft.

A simple definition of crafts is a project that requires a step by step process to reach the required result. There are a multitude of forms of arts and crafts from paper folding, knitting, sewing, crocheting, beading or painting, the end result is the vision the creator had from the outset. There are many more different forms than these but this gives you an idea on what a craft can be considered. Crafts can give to children great assistance with creative skills allowing the children to learn from something they do and use their own creativity in producing a desired result.

Many crafts of course will require the initial purpose of the items involved, whether you are knitting and require knitting needles, wool and a pattern, or whether you are creating a collage requiring a base board, glue and materials for the collage. Some types of crafts of course will be more expensive to create than others but again this all depends on the purpose of creating the item and the intended recipient for which the craft is made.

You will find that there are many places you can purchase items for craft making, almost all malls or shopping centers will have a craft store of some sort where you can purchase most of the required items you will need. This does of course depending on the project you have in mind. The best way to start out is to use as much of your home materials as you can perhaps starting with a collage or similar and then lead on to further more creative and complex crafts as you see your children becoming more competent. There are many inexpensive options such as cutting up old magazines and perhaps the purchase of glue, beads and glitter etc that you can use for your initial projects and then your child will probably give you ideas on what form of craft they might want to proceed to next.

When you have the opportunity perhaps to work on crafts with your children you will find that while the event itself is fulfilling your children also improve their interaction skills and their creativity can begin to flourish. You may even discover your child is very artistic in one field or another. Add to that the sense of accomplishment your child will feel at completion of a task and you are on to a win-win situation.

Not only do you get to spend more time with your child but you find you will open avenues for discussion of every day events and you may find that you yourself enjoy the process just as much as it is benefiting your child. Not to mention the desired craft at the end of your endeavors.

When creating craft items this will improve the thinking and problem solving skills of your children as they themselves think of perhaps alternative crafts for your next project as well as ways to make your current project more eye catching or even more useful to your intended recipient. Making items also allows them to make small decisions of their own in the artistic content of whatever it may be you are creating which in turn gives them confidence and the ability to feel they have the ability to perhaps master larger tasks.

Building the self esteem and confidence in a child is a process learned over time and using crafts as a tool for your child to take part in the entire process and see the results is a great step in assisting in this area of your child’s growth. Make sure that your child is involved in the entire process from what the craft will be or how it will eventually look and give them the freedom to express their creativity. You will only reap benefits in time spent with your children and their opportunities to learn.

Holiday Arts and Craft On a Budget

Author: Stephanie Peeden

The best time for arts and craft projects comes at the end of the year. The spirit starts to drill into everyone around Halloween, working steadily through Thanksgiving, and climaxes with Christmas. It's this time that we care more for those heart-felt gifts, since we've been pretty busy to ourselves the rest of the year.

However, you do not need to break the bank for a warm gift to give someone, as many of us already know. There are always things in the realm of "cute" and "darling", that can give a wonderful impression to our family and friends.

Halloween can be an easy time to grab a smile from someone with a "Ghost Pop". All you need is a small lollipop with a wrapper, a sheet of tissue paper, and a small rubberband. (see where this is going? :)
Place the tissue paper over and around the lollipop, wrap the rubberband around the base several times, and then draw your "ghostly" face on the pop with a permanent maker. (Careful though, the marker's ink will spread quickly, just a few dots is usually good enough.) This is an easy, fun, very cheap craft for the holiday, and best of all, the receiver of this gift has a nice snack also!

Thanksgiving is a tough time to give due attention to a nice craft, since Christmas season is starting to wind-up in everyone's mind. Give it a little effort though, and you can have something to decorate your home with for many years to come. I think a good one is to take a small scrap sheet of treated wood, (wood that has been treated to withstand the elements of the outdoors. A piece about 2 to 3 feet is nice), draw a cartoon-like turkey on it, and then cut or have it cut around the border of your turkey. Then, "color" your turkey by painting it. With a small stake nailed to the back of it, you have a wonderful yard decoration for all to see! (Putting the date, and artist's name on the back could make it a nice "heirloom" also, if you use a good piece of wood that will last.)

Christmas is the time when stores are packed with shoppers, Stay at home one day and make a few gifts of your own. You may be surprised at what you can come up with! Take an old seasonal dish towel, the kind that have a decoration for the holiday, and an embroidery hoop. (The hoop can be purchased fairly cheap at places like Wal-mart.) Stretch the towel over the hoop and clamp it. Cut the edge of the towel off, and wa-la!, a thought-ful kitchen decoration for someone! (Actually, it would look nice anywhere in the home or even at work for some people.)

Whatever kind of crafts you find yourself doing this year, make sure you are careful, and have FUN making and sharing your "gifts from the heart". Tis the Season! -Stephanie

The Spirit of Disneyland, an ...

Arts And Crafts History: Origins 1830-1860

Author: Katherine Hill

The Arts and Crafts movement was a reformist movement Inspired by the writings of John Ruskin and a romantic idealization of the craftsman taking pride in his personal handiwork. It was at its height between 1880-1910. In the United States, the terms American Craftsman or Craftsman style are often used to denote the style of architecture, interior design, and decorative arts that prevailed between the dominant eras of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, or roughly the period from 1910 to 1925.

The Arts and Crafts movement basically began as a search of authentic and meaningful styles for the 19th century and a reaction to the eclectic revival styles of the Victorian era and to the "soulless or heartless" styles of machine made "Industrial Revolution". Considering the machine to be the root cause of all repetitive and mundane evils, some of the protagonists of this movement turned entirely away from the use of machines and towards handcraft, which tended to concentrate their productions in the hands of sensitive but well-heeled patrons.

In 1861, the Arts and Crafts movement got its' biggest support when Morris founded Morris, Marshall, Faulkner and Co., a furniture, design and decorative accessories company that stressed time-honored craftsmanship and natural materials. The timing was perfect for in 1862 the London International Exhibition showcased never-before-seen Japanese arts and Crafts, which had an immediate effect on design. England quickly became enamored with this new look and began shedding the layers of Victorian clutter from its homes.

Ruskin also preached that work was meant to be joyous -- an idea that was lost on the growing multitude of factory workers who spent long hours toiling in poor conditions. This noble idea had its roots in the past when one's work was one's life and it was to become one of the Movement's basic tenets.

The Arts and Crafts soon died out but influentially conveyed the idea that craftsmanship and creativity can never be overpowered by the advent of machines and technology.
